Responsibilities of the Director, Corporate Finance

Leadership and Management

  • Provide leadership to the Corporate Accounting and Vendor Management teams, support the Director of Pensions Finance, and implement the Corporation’s financial strategy to align with business goals.
  • Execute initiatives to improve financial performance and operational efficiency, measure service effectiveness, and revise as needed.
  • Lead change initiatives, ensure staff adaptability, establish relationships across divisions, and provide subject-level expertise in committees and projects.

Financial Planning and Analysis

  • Provide insights for strategic financial planning, collaborate with senior and operational leadership to enhance financial performance, and advise the CFO and Senior Leadership team on budgetary opportunities and threats.
  • Lead the execution of financial planning and forecasting, ensuring alignment with the Corporation’s business plan.

Accounting and Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations and accounting standards.
  • Oversee daily financial operations, maintain an effective financial control environment, manage treasury functions, and ensure compliance with tax responsibilities and pension plan requirements.
  • Drive process mapping and improvement for efficient financial workflows.
  • Lead the coordination of annual audits, liaise with external auditors, and support audit preparation by coordinating draft financial statements and supporting documentation.

Controls and Risk Management

  • Maintain and enforce financial policies and procedures, monitor internal controls to ensure compliance and that assets are safeguarded, and identify and mitigate financial risks.
  • Design and maintain a comprehensive corporate contracting process and an effective procurement program with clear, documented processes.
  • Oversee the vendor and materials management program to ensure fiscal responsibility, appropriate controls, and compliance with corporate policies, pension plan service agreements, and legislation.

What you bring

  • Canadian Chartered Professional Accounting (CPA) designation, including a specialization in Assurance and Tax.
  • 10 years of directly related senior management experience.
  • Excellent knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), Canadian Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS), Income Tax Act (ITA), and best practices.
  • Audit experience in a medium-to-large accounting firm.
  • Experience in the banking industry, pension, or benefit environment would be a significant asset.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills, strong interpersonal, research and analytical skills, and the ability to build sustainable relationships with personnel at all levels of the organization, including key stakeholders and senior management.
  • Strong leadership and team skills demonstrated ability to take ownership of opportunities and issues, with superior negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to make decisions based on financial and economic analysis and a strong sense of personal and business integrity with a commitment to ethical business behavior.
