Job Description:

Do you want to play a leadership role in driving strategic corporate communications that promote and advance Sun Life’s digital and technology priorities? Are you an experienced Director of Corporate Communications who is passionate about internal and external strategic storytelling about IT and digital transformation, creating engaging employee experiences and collaborating with stakeholders across multiple geographies to deliver results? In addition to the skills below, we’re looking for an insights-driven, passionate team player who is proactive, positive and proven in their ability to roll up their sleeves and play a leadership role on our broader Corporate Communications team supporting key company initiatives. This role reports into the AVP of Corporate Communications.

What will you do:

  • Create and execute strategic internal and external plans to support Sun Life’s focus on being a digital leader, specifically supporting Sun Life’s Digital Business and Technology Solutions team (DBTS).
  • Support in creating and executing a strategic internal and external plan to help position Sun Life’s Chief Information and Technology Officer as an industry thought leader, advance the CIO’s and DBTS’ priorities and Sun Life’s reputation in digital and help build CIO’s internal/external profile.
  • Write and create engaging communications with a passion for telling compelling stories that resonate with audiences
  • Counsel senior leaders on communications best practices, strategies, issues and change priorities
  • Drive proactive and compelling media relations and social media, and manage reputational issues
  • Collaborate with communications teams across the enterprise to ensure alignment and prioritization with the employee experience top of mind
  • Coach and develop team members to support their growth and career progression
  • Fuel employee engagement by delivering strategic and visual internal communications tied to Sun Life’s business priorities
  • Serves as a change agent for delivering new and interactive ways to communicate to employees globally
  • Solve day-to-day issues based on expertise and collaboration with others to find practical solutions
  • Own strategic metrics and measurement of employee and external communications, and media coverage.

What do you need to succeed?

  • Seasoned communications leader with expertise in strategic external and internal communications, including media relations, in a large, multinational organization
  • Proven experience creating and executing strategic communications plans to promote and advance business priorities
  • Strong story telling skills and an eye for graphic design to support the delivery of impactful communications campaigns through written, visual and dynamic communications
  • Self-starter with a proactive ability to initiate integrated communications plans, own execution and measure results across multiple channels
  • Strong issues management skills to quickly analyze issues, understand business impacts and deliver communications to mitigate issues
  • Ability to advise and counsel senior executives and adapt to meet their business needs
  • Client-service oriented with a proven ability to navigate and manage multiple stakeholders to provide communications advise and counsel
  • A proven strategic ability to lead a team to plan, prioritize and collaborate with others to meet tight deadlines and deliver measurable results based on communications plans
  • Ability to manage and coach team members to help them grow and develop
  • Excellent interpersonal, leadership, negotiation and project management skills

Assets:

  • 10+ years of experience in communications, media relations, including 7+ years in a communications leadership role
  • Expertise in leading communications programs and campaigns in the information technology, digital transformation and/or cybersecurity space
  • Bilingual (English, French)
  • Social media expertise and presence on LinkedIn and other channels
  • Understanding of emerging technology trends and digital transformation
  • Experience in developing engaging digital internal and external content strategies
  • Experience with multimedia communications, including video or graphic design

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
