RBC in Mississauga is seeking a Director of Corporate Actuarial to lead actuarial assumptions, methodologies, disclosures, and strategic initiatives. You will steer validation processes, influence across portfolios, and ensure IFRS 17 compliance in a dynamic insurance environment.

You will collaborate with senior leadership, oversee regulatory reporting, and apply advanced actuarial knowledge gained through 10+ years of related work to drive organizational success.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, or relevant field (Business, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics) with actuarial knowledge.
  • Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) and/or Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries (FCIA) with 10+ years of insurance experience.
  • IFRS 17 experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead annual review and validation of actuarial assumptions across portfolios and oversee experience studies to reflect current business and economic conditions.
  • Provide expert consulting on actuarial methodology across portfolios and drive enhancements to strengthen practices.
  • Oversee entity financial statements and regulatory disclosures, including IFRS 17, OSFI Life return, and Appointed Actuary reporting.

What is the Opportunity?

The Corporate Actuarial team plays a critical role in supporting actuarial excellence and strategic initiatives across all lines of RBC Insurance's business. As the Director of Corporate Actuarial, you will provide leadership and expertise in actuarial assumptions, methodology, external disclosures, and strategic business initiatives. In this role, you will drive innovation through robust actuarial review processes, enhance our methodological frameworks, and ensure regulatory compliance.

What will you do?
  • Review Actuarial Assumptions and Experience Studies: Lead the annual review and validation of actuarial assumptions across all portfolios. Oversee comprehensive experience studies to ensure assumptions remain appropriate and reflect current business experience and economic conditions.
  • Consulting Support on Actuarial Methodology: Provide expert consulting support and influence on actuarial methodology across all insurance portfolios. Champion methodology enhancements and improvements that strengthen our actuarial practices and analytical capabilities across portfolio teams
  • External Disclosures: Oversee and coordinate the delivery of entity financial statements and regulatory disclosures, including the Appointed Actuary report, OSFI Life return, and other actuarial reports. Ensure full compliance with regulatory requirements and IFRS 17 standards. Analyze and explain liability movements, including insurance experience impacts and assumption changes.
  • Support Company Strategic Initiatives: Partner with senior leadership and portfolio teams to support corporate strategic initiatives through actuarial insights, analysis, and recommendations that drive organizational success.
  • Advanced Knowledge: Demonstrate advanced knowledge of insurance products, features, and risk across multiple business lines (gained through 10+ years of direct or indirect related work experience).
  • Regulatory & Standards Compliance: Maintain expertise in IFRS 17 standards, regulatory compliance requirements, process controls, Life Insurance law, underwriting principles, and life insurance taxation.
  • Collaboration & Influence: Support and influence portfolio actuaries and cross- functional teams through effective partnerships, strong communication skills (oral and written), and the ability to adapt to change and competing priorities.
What do you need to succeed?
  • Bachelor's degree (or greater) in Actuarial Science, or relevant field (Business, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics) with demonstrated actuarial knowledge
  • Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) and/or Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries (FCIA) with 10+ years of insurance experience
  • IFRS 17 experience preferred
