What is the opportunity?

As Director, Compensation, you are responsible for leading the design, development and implementation and communication of compensation solutions including salary, short term incentive and equity incentive programs for Technology and Operations that support and align with RBC’s compensation principles and Business strategies and objectives. You will also provide HR business partners and senior management expert advice on all aspects of compensation programs, policies, initiatives and integrated HR solutions, ensuring that they have a clear understanding of the financial and human capital impact of their HR decisions.

What will you do?

  • Lead the development of compensation strategies and frameworks that support business goals and objectives and is responsible for the advancement of compensation solutions (salary, incentive, equity).
  • Design base salary and variable incentive programs that drive revenue generation ensuring programs are motivational, financially viable and generate the highest return on investment.
  • Lead a full suite of detailed year-end variable compensation analytics, considering multiple data points including employee performance, business performance and market data to arrive at a well-informed compensation recommendation.
  • Lead compensation communications that ensure people managers and employees receive timely and easy to understand information.
  • Proactively stays abreast of developments in the external market with whom we compete for business and talent, becoming an expert on relevant competitor compensation practices, key business strategies and responses to regulatory guidance.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with HR Business Partners and senior leaders; problem solve through root cause analysis; demonstrate the ability to impact and influence.
  • Manage market research, including the cost effective collection, modeling and analysis of compensation data, providing Business Partners with meaningful and actionable information and recommendations to help them more effectively manage their compensation spend and enhance employee engagement.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have:

  • Undergraduate degree in Mathematics, Finance, Commerce, Human Resources, or similar.
  • 10+ years’ experience in Compensation and/or Finance, ideally within a Tech/FinTech or consulting environment.
  • Proven strategic leadership skills.
  • Strong analytical skills with an ability to analyze complex situations, synthesize information, understand issues, identify options, and support sound decision making; and integrate information from different sources into a coherent view.
  • Thinking strategically – ability to create Total rewards/HR technology strategy relevant to the business.
  • Strong execution orientation.

Nice-to-have:

  • HR professional designation (i.e. Certified Compensation Professional).
  • Finance or Accounting certification (MBA/CPA/CA/CGA/CMA).
  • Experience managing a global team in a matrix environment.
  • Previous experience designing incentive compensation programs.
  • Previous exposure to Workday Compensation and Job Architecture considered an asset.
  • Exposure to financial regulations related to compensation, globally.
