Job Description
Duties and Responsibilities
- Direct the work activities and manage the performance and development of subordinate staff in line with corporate strategy.
- Coach, lead, and develop underwriters; oversee underwriting training development.
- Collaborate with senior management to develop and implement underwriting policies, marketing strategies, and business plans.
- Create and execute operating plans to grow the business and meet strategic goals.
- Review and oversee underwriting policy application and pricing for risks within an assigned book of business.
- Market insurance products and services to the brokerage community to drive business growth.
- Build and maintain broker relationships to ensure profitable outcomes.
- Report on business progress to senior management.
- Stay informed on provincial and federal regulations, industry trends, and market activity.
- Represent the company in industry trade groups.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
- Strong leadership, coaching, and development skills for underwriting teams.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation abilities.
- Effective interaction with internal and external business partners at all levels.
- Senior technical underwriting expertise and people management skills.
- Deep knowledge of insurance principles, practices, and procedures.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills; capable of managing strategic initiatives and delivering results.
- Ability to handle ambiguous situations and resolve complex business issues creatively.
- Contribute to setting long-term goals for the business unit.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and other business software.
Education and Experience
- MBA or equivalent experience; CIP or CRM designation is an asset.
- Minimum of 8-10 years of senior technical underwriting and management experience with proven results.
