JOB DESCRIPTION:

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Direct the work activities and manage the performance and development of subordinate staff in line with corporate strategic direction.
2. Coach, lead, and develop underwriters; oversee underwriting training development.
3. Collaborate with senior management to develop and implement underwriting policy, marketing, and business strategies.
4. Create and execute operational plans to enhance business and meet strategic objectives.
5. Oversee the application of underwriting policy and pricing for risks within an assigned book of business.
6. Market products and services to drive business through the brokerage community.
7. Develop and maintain broker relationships to ensure positive and profitable outcomes.
8. Report business progress to senior management.
9. Stay informed on provincial/federal issues, regulations, industry activity, and trends.
10. Represent the company in industry trade groups.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

• Effective leadership, coaching, and development of an underwriting team.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
• Ability to interact effectively with all levels of internal and external business partners.
• Senior-level technical underwriting and people management skills.
• Strong knowledge of insurance principles, practices, and procedures.

Education and Experience:

• MBA or equivalent experience; CIP or CRM designation is an asset.
• Typically, 8-10 years of senior technical underwriting and management experience with a proven track record.
