JOB DESCRIPTION:
Duties and Responsibilities
- Direct the work activities and manage the performance and development of subordinate staff in line with corporate strategic direction.
- Coach, lead, and develop underwriters; oversee underwriting training development.
- Collaborate with senior management to develop and implement underwriting policy, marketing, and business strategies.
- Create and execute operational plans to enhance business and meet strategic objectives.
- Oversee the application of underwriting policy and pricing for risks within an assigned book of business.
- Market products and services to drive business through the brokerage community.
- Develop and maintain broker relationships to ensure positive and profitable outcomes.
- Report business progress to senior management.
- Stay informed on provincial/federal issues, regulations, industry activity, and trends.
- Represent the company in industry trade groups.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:
- Effective leadership, coaching, and development of an underwriting team.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
- Ability to interact effectively with all levels of internal and external business partners.
- Senior-level technical underwriting and people management skills.
- Strong knowledge of insurance principles, practices, and procedures.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills; capable of managing strategic initiatives and delivering results.
- Ability to handle ambiguous situations and issues.
- Creativity in resolving complex and challenging business problems.
- Contribute to setting long-term goals and objectives for the business sub-function.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and other business-related software.
Education and Experience:
- MBA or equivalent experience; CIP or CRM designation is an asset.
- Typically, 8-10 years of senior technical underwriting and management experience with a proven track record.
