Global Team Overview:

The Corporate Finance team within BMO Commercial Bank, Canada, part of BMO Financial group, covers both large public and private corporate clients operating in diversified sectors such as real estate, auto dealership finance, and other specialized industries. The team evaluates financing opportunities of $10MM or more, on syndicated and bilateral bases. Financing solutions include senior, subordinated, and mezzanine debt, as well as equity. The successful candidate will join the Financial Services Group (“FSG”), part of the Specialty Segments, focusing on banking relationships within the Financial Services sector, including the Specialty Finance Portfolio, which handles senior debt financing with non-regulated lenders or long-term lessors, and manages full banking relationships in specific subsectors. The Financial Services Group is based in Toronto with national coverage.

Job Overview

The Director will join the FSG team responsible for originating senior secured loans and managing a growing portfolio of clients. This role involves managing existing relationships with complex credit structures and cash management needs, making approval recommendations, and collaborating with various Corporate Finance teams to serve and expand these relationships.

Job Description

The selected candidate:

  • Manages risk in the assigned complex portfolio accurately and promptly.
  • Acts as the primary contact for clients regarding sales-related inquiries such as product details, pricing, and implementation timelines.
  • Handles the annual review process, interim reviews, quarterly reports, and resolves exceptions.
  • Supports pre-sales activities including pitch preparation, client research, and prospect documentation.
  • Ensures seamless sales and service administration, identifying and meeting opportunities.
  • Collects data to support sales processes and completes necessary documentation.
  • Monitors implementation requests to adhere to timelines.
  • Recommends improvements to sales support materials based on internal reports and feedback.
  • Maintains accurate documentation and compliance with policies and procedures to safeguard the bank’s position.
  • Ensures client information is current and complete in the bank’s systems.
  • Uses expertise and creativity to address complex or ambiguous situations and find solutions.
  • Performs additional duties or responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Typically, 7+ years of relevant experience with a post-secondary degree or equivalent; professional designations like CPA, CBV, CFA are assets.
  • Credit qualifications and knowledge according to established standards if applicable.
  • Knowledge of industry verticals and market environment.
  • Experience in negotiations with clients and legal counsel.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong relationship management, collaboration, communication, financial, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Data-driven decision-making, risk management, sales and service management, and business acumen expertise.
