Director, Commercial Banking

A leading financial institution is seeking a CPA-designated finance leader for a Director of Commercial Banking position. This role is responsible for the accounting function for Commercial Banking including driving end-to-end close processes, and serving as the key liaison between finance, front office, operations, and regulatory teams. This is a highly visible role requiring deep IFRS knowledge, strong governance capabilities, project and process improvement experience and the ability to translate complex accounting into business insight.

This role is Hybrid and is 3 days a week in office.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Own the accuracy and completeness of monthly and quarterly financial and regulatory reporting for multiple business lines, including MD&A, disclosures, and internal reporting packages.
2. Provide technical accounting insight on new transactions and products, ensuring appropriate treatment under IFRS and internal policy.
3. Oversee the execution of monthly and quarterly close processes, including financial control reviews, variance analysis, and audit support.
4. Lead the operational implementation of new accounting and regulatory standards, coordinating across cross-functional teams.
5. Enhance control processes and documentation (including SOX and EUDA compliance), ensuring timely and efficient execution.
6. Represent the finance function in system initiatives and platform enhancements.
7. Mentor and lead a team of accounting professionals, providing coaching, development, and performance oversight.

1. CPA designation with 8+ years of progressive experience in accounting and reporting roles within financial services.
2. Advanced understanding of IFRS and internal controls over financial reporting (ICFR).
3. Experience with structured transactions, complex financial instruments, and cross-functional project leadership.
4. Skilled communicator with the ability to convey technical matters clearly to executive stakeholders.
5. Proven people leader with a strong governance mindset and continuous improvement focus.
