Verathon is seeking a Director, Central Engineering to join our Visualization Business Unit R&D Team in Burnaby, BC. This key leadership role involves guiding research and development efforts, overseeing Systems and Human Factors Engineering, Verification Engineering, and Sustaining teams from product concept to market launch. The director collaborates with cross-functional teams, including design, regulatory affairs, and quality management, to drive innovation, compliance, and business success.

Responsibilities

How will you add value?

  1. Strategic Planning: Develop and execute R&D strategies aligned with organizational goals, market trends, and technological advancements in medical devices.
  2. Management: Support multiple R&D projects, establishing timelines, milestones, and resource allocations to ensure timely and within-budget delivery.
  3. Product Development: Oversee product requirements, risk analysis (FMEAs), Verification and Validation testing, ensuring compliance with FDA regulations and ISO standards.
  4. Innovation and Ideation: Foster a culture of creativity and exploration of new technologies to meet clinical needs and enhance patient outcomes.
  5. Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with regulatory, quality, manufacturing, and marketing teams to streamline product development and commercialization.
  6. Risk Management: Identify and mitigate technical, regulatory, and business risks to ensure product safety and efficacy.
  7. Regulatory Compliance: Keep updated on industry standards and ensure R&D activities adhere to relevant regulations.
  8. Talent Development: Recruit, mentor, and foster continuous learning within the R&D team.
  9. Budgeting and Resources: Manage budgets and resources effectively to maximize ROI and maintain high standards.

  • At least 8 years of experience in R&D leadership within the medical device sector, with a proven track record of successful product launches.
  • Deep knowledge of medical device regulations and standards (e.g., FDA 510(k), ISO 13485), with experience navigating regulatory pathways.
  • Strong management skills, capable of prioritizing, managing multiple projects, and delivering results on time and budget.
  • Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration and technical explanation to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strategic thinking, problem-solving, and risk mitigation abilities.
  • Leadership qualities to motivate teams and foster a culture of innovation and excellence.
  • Analytical skills to interpret market data and guide R&D priorities.

Salary range: $152,500 - $229,800. Compensation varies based on skills, experience, and location. For positions outside Greater Vancouver, BC, the salary range will be adjusted accordingly.

Full-time non-sales employees are eligible for Verathon’s annual bonus plan, based on company and individual performance.
