Job description

This is a hybrid position with a mix of in office and work from home.

Position Summary

The Director oversees Canada Sales Tax (GST/HST/QST/PST) reviews for DMA clients with a primary focus on providing cost recovery services and strategic tax planning recommendations. The Director will also provide assistance with Canada Sales Tax business development efforts and has account management responsibility for assigned clients.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Support Managing Director with the overall growth and development of the Canada Sales Tax practice. Responsible for managing client engagements including directing and supervising technical resources
  • Provide peer review and quality control on all client Report of Findings
  • Provide technical tax support/advice to both internal and external clients
  • Establish service goals and work with resources to achieve targets
  • Monitor monthly forecast to ensure service teams are on target and tracking toward goals; adjust resources as necessary
  • Develops tax savings issues and opportunities to sell to prospective clients
  • Prepares written reports supporting DMA’s position for Federal and Provincial taxing authorities; reviews and submits periodic status reports to clients; prepares Letters of Findings for clients
  • Works with Federal and Provincial tax officials to achieve maximum tax savings
  • Responsible for client account management on assigned clients
  • Updates work-in-process reports
  • Represents clients during audits and in hearings with federal and provincial taxing authorities
  • Provide strong leadership and mentorship, with goal setting and action plans for career development on a team and individual basis
  • Maintains excellent knowledge of federal and provincial tax laws, regulations, and court decisions
  • Researches complex tax issues
  • Attend in-person business development meetings/presentations to sell Canada Sales Tax services to clients and prospects
  • Presents Commodity Tax seminars/roundtables to DMA clients as well as industry sponsored events (Ex. COST, TEI)
Non-Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manage talent acquisition process to obtain top talent
  • Prepare reports as necessary for leadership
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Education and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related field
  • 10+ years’ experience in the commodity tax field
  • CPA (CGA, CMA, CA) designation preferred
  • Experience with Canadian Indirect Tax (GST/HST/QST/PST) preferably
  • Experience researching tax questions and issues
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills
  • Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and maintain exceptional attention to detail
  • Requires advanced technical knowledge plus advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Previous management experience preferred
  • Organizational and interpersonal skills required
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Travel as required (between 25-40%, approximately)
