SALARY : $155,948 - $183,482

ACCOUNTABILITY STATEMENT :

The Director, Business Process provides strategic oversight for services supporting Rail Mechanical and Remanufacturing and Repair Centre (RM and RRC), ensuring consistency across business units. Collaborating with RM and RRC Directors, this role drives strategies to enhance business efficiency, regulatory compliance, and customer engagement, while standardizing processes and optimizing resources for safe, effective, and sustainable operations.

MAJOR DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • High level oversight and management of Rail Mechanical and RRC shops and services.
  • Ensure that services provided to all operating divisions are aligned with their operational needs and their long term and strategic plan.
  • Provide strategic direction to ensure coordination of shared services and centralization of work events.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and applicable collective bargaining agreements, while fostering strong, effective relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Plan, implement, evaluate, and manage safety programs to ensure compliance with rules, regulations, and procedures / best practices.
  • Provide strategic oversight in developing, evaluating, and negotiating short and long-term agreements with foreign railways and leasing companies for mechanical services, maximizing return on investment and meeting customer requirements.
  • Supporting the activities of the Rail Mechanical Freight / RRC marketing, pricing, and sales group
  • Work collaboratively with the transportation team on fleet management requirements.
  • Oversee planning and implementation of technology or automation (e.g., software and hardware development) for safety, efficiencies, and better and effective production.
  • Work collaboratively to plan, implement, evaluate, and manage all available resources ensuring proper allocation, use and spending.
  • Establish, follow up on, measure and, as necessary, improve Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the scope of responsibility.
  • Work collaboratively efficiently and effectively with RM and RRC senior management on financial, HR and business planning ensuring alignment with operational needs and objectives.
  • Plan, develop, implement, follow up and measure ways for ensuring employees’ adherence to regulatory requirements and departmental and corporate policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Ensure timely and smooth flow of information and communication.
  • Participate in committees and advocacy (re safety, Transportation Canada, rail industry).
  • Champion and lead a culture of continuous improvement, inclusivity, and safety by encouraging, promoting, and advocating for immediate action and input.
  • Stay fully informed on the status of projects, work, and production through established processes and timelines and provide reports as required.
  • Oversight and management in emergency and crisis situations including efficiently and effectively dealing with service failure, major derailments, or cardinal rule violations.

REQUIREMENTS :

  • University Degree in Manufacturing, Business or Engineering
  • Over 5 years of experience as a manager or director, including but not limited to :
  • managing a production or manufacturing facility

  • managing maintenance and repair of equipment
  • broad experience managing change within an organization
  • project management / supervision
  • operating and capital budgets
  • financial and human resources management
  • strategic planning and goal setting
  • community relations
  • research and development
  • create and implement process improvements

  • Knowledge of industry best practices and rail regulations
  • Understanding of engineering requirements based on Statement of Work (SOW) and ability to coordinate engineering resources
  • Progressive experience with labour and employee relations and administration of collective agreements
  • Excellent working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Suite
  • Current Engineering License and / or trade certification in one of the following trades : Automotive Service Technician 310S, Electrician - Construction and Maintenance 309A, Heavy Duty Equipment Technician 421A, Railway Car Technician 268R, Millwright Red Seal is preferred
  • Valid G Driver’s License with ability to travel up to 25%
  • Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills and demonstrated integrity while interacting with employees at all levels within the organization
  • Effective communication and negotiation skills with demonstrated ability to listen, focus, and convey messages that will be easily understood
  • Demonstrated ability to think and plan strategically
  • Excellent analytical, planning, decision making, time management and leadership skills
  • Willingness and flexibility to change priorities on short notice and / or under pressure
