The Canadian Media Producers Association – BC Producers Branch represents over 150 BC-based Canadian independent producers engaged in the development, production, and distribution of English-language TV programming, movies, and digital media content. The Industrial Relations team is responsible for negotiating and administering the BC motion picture collective agreements on behalf of our members and providing support to members and industry in production-related matters such as health and safety, sustainable production, workforce development, and business and industry affairs.

We are seeking a dynamic individual to join our BC Industrial Relations Team as Director, BC Industrial Relations. This role supports the Managing Vice-President, BC Producers Branch and Industrial Relations, and the BC bargaining committee in preparing and managing collective labour negotiations, including research, member consultation, and drafting bargaining documents such as proposals, memorandums of agreement, and contracts. Outside of collective bargaining, the Director administers labour agreements and is the primary contact for BC Industrial Relations inquiries.

Roles & Responsibilities:
  1. Support the Managing Vice-President, BC Producers Branch and Industrial Relations in developing strategies for collective bargaining, including consulting with members on issues and concepts.
  2. Lead drafting of bargaining proposals, memorandums of agreement, and collective agreements.
  3. Coordinate negotiations in Vancouver and assist in other jurisdictions as required.
  4. Support the BC Industrial Relations committee and CMPA-BC bargaining committees, including material preparation and other support.
  5. Participate in national IR and sector-level committees and special projects (e.g., sustainable production, equity, diversity, and inclusion).
  6. Manage IR and sector-level research projects, including budget preparation and reporting.
  7. Lead outreach to members regarding labour relations matters.
  8. Respond to member inquiries concerning labour relations, employment standards, and BC collective agreement issues.
  9. Maintain IR records, bargaining notes, grievance files, and other IR-related documentation.
  10. Manage production and IR-related lists as appropriate.
  11. Coordinate tracking of union grievances and support members during grievance and arbitration processes.
  12. Stay informed on industry trends, identify issues, and recommend opportunities for members.
  13. Draft communications on industrial relations news and updates.
  14. Support health and safety initiatives and advise members accordingly.
  15. Build strong relationships with union representatives to support labour relations stability.
  16. Address union issues as they arise, including matters outside the collective agreements.
  17. Represent CMPA-BC on industry committees and at events to promote membership.
  18. Coordinate with the national IR team for consistent approaches.
  19. Supervise CMPA-BC Permittee membership processes.
  20. Assist in preparing revenue forecasts and production statistics.
  21. Support other duties as assigned, including CMPA-wide initiatives.
Required Competencies and Experience:
  1. Minimum five years of experience in collective bargaining, business affairs, contract management, HR, or employer administration.
  2. Experience in the film and TV industry and with sustainability or equity, diversity, and inclusion is an asset.
  3. Highly organized and detail-oriented.
  4. Excellent communication skills in English (oral and written).
  5. Proficiency with Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PPT, Teams, SharePoint/One Drive, Outlook) and related technology.
  6. Strong facilitation and negotiation skills.
  7. Analytical mindset.

Location: Full-time, based in Vancouver, BC. Currently hybrid work schedule.
