Director & CEO – Winnipeg Art Gallery‑Qaumajuq

Winnipeg Art Gallery–Qaumajuq (WAG‑Qaumajuq) is a leading art museum with a focus on Inuit art and community engagement. The Director & CEO provides strategic vision, leadership, and operational oversight to expand the museum’s impact and sustainability.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as primary ambassador and spokesperson for the museum, engaging media, members, funders, audiences, and Indigenous partners.
• Develop and execute a bold vision and strategy for growth, audience development, and community relevance.
• Commit to inclusive values of diversity, equity, respect, and accessibility.
• Lead the transition from facility‑focused operations to growth and impact strategies.
• Support new voices, international exhibitions, and culturally respectful programming.
• Design, deliver, evaluate, and reinvent programs to meet community needs.
• Build authentic relationships with Indigenous peoples, settlers, and newcomers.
• Develop strategic partnerships with cultural and educational institutions, tourism agencies, government, and non‑profits.
• Engage in capital campaign planning and oversee significant capital initiatives.
• Secure public and private funding and cultivate donor prospects.
• Advocate for the arts, promote truth and reconciliation, and integrate Indigenous knowledge.
• Oversee digital strategy, communication, and marketing.
• Champion workforce development, culture, and employee engagement.
• Mentor staff, guide collections, exhibitions, and audience development.
• Collaborate with the Board on governance, policy, and strategic planning.
• Provide robust financial reporting, analysis, and cost‑control.
• Align operations with strategic priorities and deliver annual and multi‑year work plans.
• Ensure transparency, accountability, and alignment of policies.
• Include other leadership responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years of progressively responsible senior management experience in the visual arts, higher education, or relevant public sector.
• Proven leadership in arts, culture, non‑profit, business, or public sector.
• Demonstrated results in strategic planning, community engagement, revenue generation, capital campaigns, team supervision, facility oversight, and artist relations.
• Master’s degree (or equivalent experience) in museum studies, business, arts administration, social science, history, Indigenous studies, or related field preferred.
• Canadian citizenship, permanent residency, or legal right to work in Canada. Multi‑lingual skills appreciated.
• Proficiency in using data, analytics and technology to inform decisions.
• Commitment to equity, inclusion, and decolonization.

Compensation and Benefits

Estimated base salary: $180,000 – $230,000. Additional benefits include Manitoba Health coverage, supplemental health and dental coverage, life insurance, accidental death and dismemberment coverage, long‑term disability, defined contribution pension plan, professional memberships, vacation, holidays, and other equitable benefits.
