Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce is seeking a Director of Data Science to lead analytics strategy for Wealth and Fraud, mentoring a team of data scientists and partnering with business leaders to deliver impactful AI solutions. The role combines hands-on modeling with high-level strategic guidance, in a hybrid work arrangement with 1–3 days on-site per week.

What you’ll be doing

Enterprise Analytics is a high-impact team that helps shape business strategy through data, advanced analytics, and artificial intelligence (AI). As a Director, Data Science, you’ll build strong relationships with stakeholders, understand strategic priorities, and recommend sophisticated models and AI solutions that support business goals, with a focus on Wealth and Fraud. You’ll lead, manage, and mentor a team of junior and senior data scientists while taking a hands‑on approach to solving complex problems. In this senior leadership role, you’ll help plan and manage change across client‑facing analytics and AI initiatives, ensuring solutions are practical, scalable, and aligned to business needs. You’ll also act as a trusted partner to leaders across the bank, helping connect analytical insights to meaningful business outcomes. You’ll have the flexibility to manage your work activities within a hybrid work arrangement where you’ll spend 1‑3 days per week on‑site, while other days will be remote.

How you’ll succeed

• Business partnership – Build strong relationships with business leaders across CIBC to understand priorities, identify opportunities, and apply advanced analytics to solve complex business problems.
• Analytics leadership – Lead and deliver key analytical initiatives across multiple lines of business, ensuring work is aligned to strategic goals and delivers measurable value.
• Model development and oversight – Oversee the design, validation, implementation, and evaluation of statistical and machine learning models that address complex business challenges and large data sets.
• Insight generation – Work closely with subject matter experts to understand business context, assess data sources, guide data transformation activities, and develop features that improve model performance.
• Execution and sustainment – See analytics work through to completion by supporting deployment, handoff, and ongoing model refreshes or enhancements as business needs evolve.
• Team and storytelling leadership – Mentor data scientists on modelling, coding, and best practices, while helping teams translate analytical findings into clear, compelling business stories and executive presentations.

Who you are

You can demonstrate experience in decision science, data science, advanced modelling, and analytical techniques. It’s an asset if you bring experience supporting Wealth, Fraud, or other complex financial services use cases. You have strong technical expertise. You bring extensive hands‑on experience with modern data science and machine learning tools including Python, pandas, scikit‑learn, XGBoost, TensorFlow, PyTorch, and SQL. You also have strong coding skills, knowledge of DevOps tools, and experience with one or more cloud platforms. You have a graduate degree in mathematics, computer science, electrical and computer engineering, or a related quantitative field. A master’s degree or doctorate is strongly preferred.
