Director, Acquirer Account Management, Market Development

Overview

The Market Development (MD) team is responsible for growing revenue with key acquirer/channel partners to drive Mastercard’s strategy forward by expanding core payments, enabling adjacent payment platforms, offering services and cyber & intelligence solutions.

The MD Team is seeking to build a diverse strategic and consultative workforce of relationship managers, problem-solvers, and sales leaders. We look for highly motivated individuals with achievement orientation, curiosity, resilience, and resourcefulness. Our team focuses on customer intimacy, product strength, and partnership orientation.

The team collaborates with MD customers across Payments, Treasury, Digital Channels, Data Analytics, Marketing, Fraud & Risk, and Finance to support joint business development.

Reports to the Vice-President, Acceptance Ecosystems & Emerging Verticals, based in Toronto.

Role Responsibilities:

  1. Provide strategic account management with deep understanding of customer needs, designing solutions, and coordinating internal resources to deliver value.
  2. Identify and develop new business opportunities for growth and ROI, qualifying opportunities before engaging stakeholders.
  3. Support cross-selling of Mastercard products to deepen relationships.
  4. Build understanding of customer businesses and propose Mastercard solutions to meet their needs, managing complex buy cycles.
  5. Develop business cases and financial models supporting MD initiatives.
  6. Assist in designing strategies, messaging, and proposals for customer acquisition.
  7. Contribute to local projects and cross-functional initiatives.
  8. Negotiate and manage customer contracts, ensuring resource alignment and information sharing.

Candidate Profile:

  • Experience in payments or technology, with exposure to acquiring or acceptance space, and business development experience preferred.
  • Proven success in managing complex sales and delivering results in a fast-paced environment.
  • Positive team player with ability to leverage internal resources.
  • Strong relationship management skills at all organizational levels.
  • Strategic thinker with good judgment and planning skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to increase revenue.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA preferred. Bilingual in French is a plus.
