Responsibilities

  • Lead several client-facing engagement teams responsible for GST, HST, QST and provincial sales tax planning and management services.
  • Responsible for the interpretation and popularization of indirect tax legislation on complex tax issues.
  • Participate in the development and delivery of specialized indirect tax training.
  • Promote regular attendance, a balanced lifestyle and a high level of well-being within the team.
  • Contribute to the preparation and delivery of competitive service offerings to meet customer needs.
  • Think strategically about customer needs by understanding their business and key risks. Identify ways to maximize customer relationships and add value.
  • Maintain rigorous quality control by verifying the accuracy and completeness of tax returns, other work performed by other team members; and provide feedback to team members.
  • Monitor project deadlines and adjust if necessary; inform clients of project progress and seek clarification on discrepancies, if any.
  • Network and play a leadership role in the local professional and business community while promoting MNP and seeking new business development opportunities.
  • Contribute to the development of new ideas and approaches to improve work processes.
  • Develop, coach and train team members towards professional and personal development.
  • Carry out annual performance appraisals.
  • Participate in internal MNP courses to further develop knowledge.

Skills and experience

  • Strong interest in indirect taxes and practice development.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, law or related field.
  • Certified professional accountant (CPA), lawyer or notary designation is an asset.
  • Completion of a master’s degree in taxation, the 2nd cycle microprogram in commodity taxes, or the CPA Canada Indirect Tax Fundamentals course is an asset.
  • 7 to 8 years' experience in a law firm or equivalent.
  • In-depth knowledge and work experience in Canadian indirect taxes.
  • Solid understanding of business principles, accounting, management and practice development.
  • Flexibility and willingness to travel sporadically within Quebec and Canada.
