We are looking for a Senior Manager, Communications – Atlantic Operations to develop integrated communications strategies and drive proactive projects and campaigns to support business objectives while managing stakeholder relationships and reputation. The role will also support the Canada Communications leadership team to ensure full alignment and coordination across different product groups and leadership teams.

Reporting to the Head of Communications for Aluminium & Canada, this strategic leadership position will drive communications excellence across Rio Tinto's Atlantic Operations aluminium business. As a key member of the SLT RTA Communications, the role will support the Atlantic Operations SLT team and its leaders. Key functions include:

  • Providing strategic counsel to the Atlantic Operations leadership team, including operational site leaders and co-entrepreneurs, on communication and stakeholder engagement matters.
  • Developing and executing strategic communication plans for Atlantic Operations aligned with business objectives, including those specific to Canada.
  • Leading a team of communicators across Atlantic Operations, including site-level teams.
  • Managing proactive and reactive communications, identifying and mitigating risks and issues.
  • Driving stakeholder engagement across projects and initiatives.
  • Leading issues management and crisis communication responses.
  • Collaborating with communication colleagues across Rio Tinto Canada to ensure message consistency and impact maximization.
  • Implementing a proactive reputation program for Atlantic Operations and Canada to positively influence public sentiment.
  • Representing the aluminium business in Canada, identifying opportunities, managing issues, and driving success.
Qualifications / Vos contributions
  • Commitment to safety for yourself and your team.
  • Over 15 years of experience in reputation management, communication, and stakeholder engagement in large organizations, agencies, or government sectors.
  • Experience in communication planning and reputation analysis.
  • Experience managing communication strategies in complex industrial operations, especially in the energy sector (preferred).
  • Proven ability to build and lead high-performing teams.
  • Strong stakeholder relationship skills at all levels.
  • Collegial approach and ability to work effectively with senior peers.
  • For Montreal-based applicants: fluency in French and English, written and spoken, is required.
