Overview
The Director, Commercial Operations is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing the full execution lifecycle of Smardt chiller system deliveries within the Commercial Business Unit (CBU). Reporting to the SVP, CBU Americas and Global Service, this role ensures that all projects are delivered on time (per customer schedule), on quality and spec (per contractual and technical requirements), and on or under cost (vs. estimated delivery cost).
Based at Smardt’s global headquarters in Montreal, Canada, this role plays a critical function in coordinating project execution, customer communications, service delivery, and integrated planning across functions. The role manages a cross-functional team and drives operational excellence across the entire post-sale value stream.
Responsabilités clés
End-to-End Execution Leadership
- Lead the Commercial Operations Department, including:
- Project Managers (Data Center and Commercial)
- Service Managers
- Planning Lead (SIOP)
- Own the execution process from clean contract handover through manufacturing, site delivery, commissioning, and post-installation support.
- Ensure compliance with contractual obligations, technical specifications, and cost targets across all projects.
Value Stream Oversight
- Manage the intake and validation of clean contracts to ensure alignment with commercial proposals.
- Oversee submittal generation and customer approval, serving as the basis for engineering and manufacturing deliverables.
- Coordinate with Engineering to develop complete and accurate BOMs, drawings, and technical documentation for the Manufacturing Business Unit (MBU).
- Track and manage MBU production lead times and outputs to meet committed customer schedules.
- Support project transition to site execution teams for delivery, startup, and commissioning—especially in data center applications.
Customer Satisfaction & Service Integration
- Act as the executive escalation point for customer issues during project delivery and warranty phases.
- Oversee warranty performance, ensuring timely fulfillment and effective cost management.
- Collaborate with Service leadership to ensure high standards in post-installation support and service execution.
Sales, Inventory & Operations Planning (SIOP)
- Lead the SIOP process for the Commercial Business Unit (CBU) to align sales demand, customer delivery expectations, and internal capacity.
- Ensure that the CBU SIOP plan feeds timely, accurate input to the Manufacturing Business Unit (MBU) SIOP, enabling alignment of production schedules and material planning.
- Serve as the point of integration between Sales, Engineering, and Manufacturing on planning coordination and risk mitigation.
Team Development & Operational Culture
- Set performance goals, KPIs, and accountability structures for all direct reports.
- Build and develop a high-performing team focused on proactive execution and continuous improvement.
- Foster a culture of operational rigor, transparency, and customer commitment.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Operations Management, or a related field; MBA or equivalent advanced degree preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive leadership in commercial operations, project delivery, or supply chain management in a manufacturing or industrial OEM setting.
- HVAC, mechanical systems, or mission-critical infrastructure experience preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of project lifecycle management, customer contracts, and cost control.
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage senior-level internal and external stakeholders.
- Excellent organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
