Position: Assistant Director of Engineering (Maintenance)

Position Summary

The Assistant Director of Engineering reports directly to the Director of Engineering. The primary role is to assist in all aspects of hotel and building maintenance including electrical, plumbing, steam, gas, fire and safety, HVAC refrigeration, interior, painting, and decorating. The role involves responding to requests efficiently and courteously to achieve maximum customer satisfaction while adhering to Four Seasons policies. The Assistant Director will supervise a team of seven technicians.

Core Responsibilities
  1. Assist in hiring, training, supervising, scheduling, counseling, and evaluating maintenance staff, including daily spot checks.
  2. Ensure proper execution of work order/request system and follow-up.
  3. Ensure compliance with all local codes and regulations.
  4. Maintain logs on stock movement and monitor distribution.
  5. Control departmental labor and operational expenses.
  6. Implement energy-saving initiatives and programs.
  7. Supervise contractors and suppliers to ensure quality and proper procurement.
  8. Create, approve, and post staff schedules.
  9. Help create and adhere to the annual budget.
  10. Ensure all emergency and safety equipment are inspected, tested, and certified.
  11. Multitask and prioritize departmental functions to meet deadlines.
  12. Understand and evaluate complex information from various sources.
  13. Maintain confidentiality of information.
  14. Read blueprints as required.
  15. Supervise and train staff in customer service, SOPs, and loss prevention.
  16. Act appropriately in emergency situations.
  17. Ensure work order system is properly executed and followed up.
  18. Prepare requisitions and work orders, liaising with procurement.
  19. Implement preventive maintenance programs and policies.
  20. Work harmoniously with colleagues and supervisors.
  21. Perform all other related tasks.
Desired Qualifications and Skills
  • Fluent in English and French, both oral and written.
  • Degree or certification in HVAC, Plumbing, Stationary Engineering, Refrigeration, or related fields.
  • 3-5 years of experience in a similar role within a 5-star luxury environment.
  • Management experience and knowledge of infrastructure utilities.
  • Proficient with Windows platform.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and under pressure.
  • High team spirit and professional appearance.
  • Service-oriented with a calm, patient demeanor.
  • Organized, meticulous, resourceful, with good technical knowledge.
  • Availability for days, evenings, holidays, and weekends for emergencies.
  • Management experience with knowledge of commercial swimming pools is a plus.
