The Globe and Mail is hiring a Digital Editor for Live Markets to manage fast, authoritative updates during the trading day. You will edit live blog entries, craft engaging headlines and stand-alone decks, and ensure coverage meets the needs of a highly engaged Globe Investor readership.

Based in Toronto with a two-day-a-week in-office requirement, you will work with editors and product teams to refine format, design and data visualization for stock market coverage.

Qualifications

• Three years of experience in digital news media.
• Strong news judgment with understanding of markets and financial coverage.
• Strong headline writing and editing skills.
• Familiarity with rich digital storytelling experiences.
• Clear communicator and excellent multitasker.
• Experience using audience analytics tools to understand trends.
• Experience using real-time financial data sources such as Bloomberg Terminal.
• Ability to use data visualization tools to create stock charts.

This role will edit and contribute to l ive blog entries, frequently write engaging headlines and generally ensure live markets coverage meets the needs of our highly engaged community of Globe Investor readers. We are looking for a curious editor with solid news judgement who is collaborative and brings an entrepreneurial spirit to their work RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Ensurewe are fast and best on markets coverage
• Edit and post live blog entries in multiple formats and contributeyour own entries to complement coverage
• WriteSEO-friendly, engaging headlines, decks,captionsand other display copy
• Monitor financial data and wire sources for relevant news
• Solicit contributions from beat reporters to enrich the live blog as appropriate
• Collaborate with colleagues in editorial and product on improvements to live blog format, functionality and design
• Use audience analytics to spot opportunities and inform decisions

QUALIFICATIONS:

• At least threeyears experienceworking in digital news media
• Solid news judgment withdemonstratedunderstanding of markets and financial coverage
• Strong headline writing and story editing skills
• Familiarity with what makes a rich digital storytelling experience

• Experience using audience analytics tools to understand trends

This position is based in the Toronto office and requires a minimum of two days a week in office.
