Job description

Description

Kidscreen is the world’s leading B2B brand for everyone who’s in the business of keeping kids entertained. Our readers work in a large global ecosystem that includes animation studios like Disney, broadcasters like Nickelodeon, streamers like Netflix, toy manufacturers like Mattel and gaming platforms like Roblox. And the industry looks to Kidscreen for the market news, trends, insights, analysis and thought leadership that will inform and inspire business.

To help us continue delivering high-caliber journalism to our audience, we are hiring a Digital Editor to lead our daily newsletter.

In collaboration with several experienced in-house writers, you’ll apply a business lens to identify the issues, trends and ideas that our industry readers care about. We’re looking for a curious and engaged editor with solid news judgment who can curate leads, guide story development, edit and publish stories, turn audience metrics into actionable insights, and rally a team to strive for editorial excellence.

Ideal candidates will be adaptable and collaborative, and have a knack for learning quickly through research and asking the right people the right questions. Your decisions in this role will be guided by experience and instinct, as well as a knowledge base that will start with a general sense of the stories and topics likely to resonate with our readers and develop into a deep understanding of the industry over time.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensuring we are fast and best-in-class on breaking news and stories that matter most to readers
  • Curating the strongest possible lineup from daily leads
  • Editing and publishing a range of content (news stories, Q&As, op-eds, impact/analysis pieces, strategy dives, roundtable discussions, success stories, innovation spotlights, polls/surveys, research summaries, infographics, etc.)
  • Writing SEO-friendly and engaging headlines, decks and other display copy
  • Using audience analytics to spot opportunities and inform decisions
  • Suggesting stories we should be covering
  • Optimizing a team of in-house writers
  • Evolving the brand’s digital content strategy and user experience
  • Developing and maintaining high-level industry contacts/relationships to ensure our content direction remains authoritative and ahead of the curve

Qualifications

  • Two to three years of experience working as an editor at a news outlet (ideally an online one, but anything that involves a daily news cycle is applicable)
  • Solid news judgment and demonstrated ability to manage a daily news lineup and beat coverage, including generating story ideas, research, assigning stories, editing and writing display elements
  • Clever and authoritative editorial voice, and high editorial standards
  • Adept at CP style, with a keen eye for detail and copy consistency
  • Clear communicator, excellent multi-tasker and effective small team leader
  • Comfortable working with digital content management systems, content planning tools and other platforms
  • Business journalism experience is an asset
  • Inside knowledge of the international film and television industry is an asset

WHAT WE OFFER:

  • Competitive salary, commensurate with experience level
  • Travel opportunities to attend industry events
  • Health benefits including dental, vision and mental health, as well as basic life insurance and long-term disability
  • Two weeks of paid vacation to start, plus several bonus days off annually, wellness days and flex work-from-home days
  • Corporate perk and discount programs offering preferred rates on gym membership, travel, insurance, mobile phone services and more
  • Brunico Communications offers a hybrid work environment. This position is based in our downtown Toronto office, and you will be required to work there a minimum of two days a week (Wednesdays and Thursdays).

Brunico Communications Ltd. is committed to building a diverse workforce representative of the communities we serve. We are proud to be in compliance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) 2005 and the Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation. Accommodation will be provided in all parts of the recruitment and assessment (if applicable) process as required under the company’s accessibility policies and procedures.
