Digital Communications & Event Coordinator

Position Title: Digital Communications & Event Coordinator

Department/Unit: Varsity

Employment Type: Full Time

Salary: $31.61 - $40.03 per hour ($57,533 - $72,853 per annum, 35 hours per week)

Job Summary: Athletics and Recreation takes a holistic approach to enhancing the Dalhousie experience by creating and sharing ways to engage and connect students through physical activity and wellness, contributing to student success. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Marketing, Communications and events, the Coordinator communicates and promotes the activities of the department including varsity games, facility services, camps, intramurals, and events.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Generate effective digital media plans to market events and activities within the department and communicate key information internally and externally.
  • Lead the social media strategy for the department’s various channels, staying up to date on trends, emerging platforms, and best practices. Curate and maintain the athletics.dal.ca website with over 100 pages.
  • Complete market research for the fitness, recreation, intramural, and varsity sections of the department, including social listening, research, and developing and executing surveys for students and members to gather feedback on current activities.
  • Direct graphic design, photography, videography, and writing staff to create content for all plans and activities for the various social media platforms.
  • Plan and evaluate promotional activities at events, actively coaching the promotion team executing the activities to enhance the fan experience at games and events.
  • Responsible for hiring and training around 50 casual staff. Generate shift schedules and develop staffing plans for events.

Required Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in Communications, Sports Management, or Public Relations with approximately three to five years of relevant experience (or an equivalent combination of training and experience).
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills with a proven ability to multi-task effectively.
  • Self-starter with strong administration experience and the ability to work independently, but thrive in a team environment.
  • Supervisory experience.
