The Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager of Food Services, the Dietitian is responsible for the management of the food service software for IWK Patient Food Services. The Dietitian establishes and maintains contact with the IWK patients and family members who have expressed questions or concerns surrounding Dial for Dining services and/or menu. As well, the Dietitian will be responsible for coordinating all food production for the Food Services Department. This includes patient feeding within the IWK Health Centre and its off-site locations, cafeteria, and catering services. This position is responsible for the supervision and scheduling of staff. The Dietitian provides nutrition education and acts as a mentor to dietetic interns and volunteers.

Hours of Work

Primarily Monday to Friday, variable shifts, and flexible hours required.

Your Qualifications

1. Bachelor’s degree with major credits in nutrition or dietetics required
2. Graduate of a Dietitians of Canada accredited Dietetic Internship Program required
3. Licensed member of the Nova Scotia Dietetic Association required (or eligible for licensure)
4. Eligible for membership to Dietitians of Canada (DC)
5. Advanced food safety training required
6. Two (2) years experience as an administrative dietitian preferred
7. Certification as a Journeyperson Cook is an asset
8. WHMIS training required (or willingness to obtain within 6 months of hire)
9. Knowledge of Oracle Cerner and CBORD preferred
10. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and other computer programs/technology
11. Knowledge of therapeutic diets and menu planning
12. Ability to delegate responsibilities and supervise food service staff members
13. Ability to work as part of a collaborative, interdisciplinary team in a variety of settings as well as the ability to work independently
14. Demonstrates excellent initiative and organization skills
15. Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and communication (verbal & written) skills
16. Excellent time management and problem-solving skills
17. Demonstrated understanding and commitment to Family Centred Care is an asset
18. Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities effectively and coordinate unexpected circumstances within the Food Service department
19. Competencies in other languages an asset
