What you'll do
- Conduct nutrition screening and assessment of patients/clients/residents utilizing established standards and guidelines, perform physical nutrition assessments such as subjective global assessment, and identify and obtain relevant data.
- Develop and implement patient/client/resident-centered nutritional goals and care plans, based on assessment and utilizing appropriate standards as set by the College of Dietitians of British Columbia, incorporating individual needs such as cultural, religious, learning, social, and economic factors. Provide recommendations to the healthcare team regarding nutrition support regimes (oral and/or enteral).
- Monitor patients/clients/residents to ensure the nutrition care plan meets established goals, and adjust as necessary after consultation with patients, families, caregivers, and healthcare providers.
- Document assessments, care plans, and recommendations accurately in health records, and maintain updated files and reports according to policies and legal requirements.
- Participate in interprofessional rounds and care conferences to provide input on nutritional status, response to care plans, and discharge planning.
- Provide education, counseling, and follow-up to patients/clients/residents and their families, including services via telephone, email, outreach, or telehealth.
- Contribute to the development and revision of evidence-based nutrition guidelines, protocols, and educational materials, and participate in relevant committees and resource identification.
- Ensure effective communication of food tolerances, preferences, and diet information to food service staff, and collaborate on menu planning and diet guidelines based on patient needs.
What you bring
Qualifications
- Current full registration as a Dietitian with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC.
- Graduate of an accredited Dietetic Internship Program or equivalent, as approved by the College.
- Registration with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC with Restricted Activity A.
- Eligibility for registration with Restricted Activities B and C.
- One year recent related experience in a clinical setting relevant to the patient population at BC Children's Hospital or equivalent education, training, and experience.
Additionally, demonstrate:
- Understanding of the impacts of systemic racism and colonialism on Indigenous Peoples within social and health contexts, and a commitment to anti-racism and cultural safety.
- Knowledge of legislative obligations and commitments such as the TRC Calls to Action, BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act, UNDRIP, and related documents.
Core Competencies
- Understanding of Indigenous-specific racism and systemic barriers, with leadership in fostering an inclusive, respectful environment.
- Knowledge of social determinants of health and ability to provide culturally relevant, holistic care respecting Indigenous and BIPOC perspectives.
Skills & Knowledge
- Broad knowledge of clinical dietetic theory, practice, standards, and nutrition management principles.
- Ability to plan, implement, and monitor nutrition care plans effectively.
- Commitment to ongoing learning about Indigenous health issues, cultural safety, and DEI principles, and willingness to share learning experiences.
