Job summary

Job Summary

How you will make an impact:

You will be responsible for assisting the Nutrition Services Director; planning, implementing, and evaluating medical nutritional therapy for hospital-based patients according to guidelines established by Nutrition Services. You will instruct and counsel patients and families regarding appropriate nutritional requirements, regimes, and food planning and preparation.

As a Registered Dietitian, you will:

  • Plan and monitor therapeutic diets, dietary restrictions, and supplemental feedings including enteral and parenteral nutrition to meet patients' needs. Maintain summaries of visits and nutritional assessments/reviews.
  • Complete nutritional assessments and develop care plans for all patients. Identify patients at nutritional risk and prioritize accordingly.
  • Review menus, advise on recipe development, and implement food production controls.
  • Monitor patient satisfaction with Food and Nutrition Services and respond to arising needs.
  • Assist the Food Service Manager to ensure compliance with all relevant legislation concerning kitchen management.
  • Help develop and maintain efficient systems in Food and Nutrition Services.
  • Act as an advisor to the Food Service Manager.

About you:

  • Thorough knowledge of nutrition in hospital care settings, including surgical and critical care.
  • Current registration with the College of Dietitians.
  • Strong knowledge of geriatric nutrition care in Acute Care settings.
  • Knowledge of government legislation related to Acute Care.
  • Understanding of food service methods, materials, and equipment used in large-scale food preparation and service.
  • Familiarity with Food Service sanitary and safety standards.
  • Knowledge of government legislation on labor, health and safety, employment, and human rights.
  • Ability to work within budget guidelines.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Preferred bilingual skills.
