Job summary

West Coast Seniors Housing Management is seeking a Dietitian for a contract, 14 hours per week, in Williams Lake, BC. The role focuses on nutritional management within the community and adherence to adult care regulations.

You will develop nutrition care plans, monitor outcomes, participate in care conferences, and ensure meals meet Canada Food Guide guidelines while respecting resident preferences and cultural needs.

Qualifications

  • Member in good standing with the College of Dietitians of British Columbia.
  • Bachelor of Science in Food and Nutrition with accredited internship.
  • Recent clinical experience in geriatric nutrition is an asset.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written/verbal communication with the interdisciplinary team.
  • Knowledge of clinical nutrition principles for geriatrics and ability to develop care plans.
  • Travel may be required and compliance with regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Be an engaged team player, developing professional relationships that support the organization.
  • Develop a nutrition care plan for each resident within 30 days of admission.
  • Monitor and revise nutrition care plans as resident needs change.
  • Attend care conferences and relevant meetings.
  • Ensure meals meet Canada Food Guide requirements and resident preferences.
  • Collaborate to establish policies for resident meal service and nutrition care.
  • Conduct nutrition and food service audits as scheduled.
  • Lead dysphagia assessments and textured diet recommendations.

This is a contract position for 14 hours per week.

About The Role

The Dietitian reports to the General Manager or designate and is responsible for the nutritional management of persons served within the community. This role ensures the highest clinical standard through quality meal service as outlined in the Adult Care Regulations and legislation requirements.


Responsibilities

Include but not limited to:



  • Be an engaged collaborative team player, developing and maintaining professional relationships that support and strengthen the organizational culture and purpose.

  • Develop a nutrition care plan for each resident as part of the resident’s overall care plan within 30 days of the resident’s admission;

  • Monitor the nutrition care plan to ensure implementation; revise in response to changes in residents needs.

  • Attend care conferences, food user committee meetings and other meetings as required.

  • Ensure that meals and snacks meet the requirements of the most recent edition of Canada’s Food Guide to Healthy Eating; and as much as possible take into consideration the resident’s dining and food preferences, religious and cultural customs.

  • In collaboration with the clinical department, establish policies and procedures with respect to resident meal service and nutritional care.

  • Conduct nutrition and food service audits in accordance with the schedule provided by the appropriate legislation.

  • Lead and support assessment of residents with dysphagia and recommendation of textured diet and evaluation of resident response to diet texture recommendation.

  • Develop documentation and reporting systems to maintain accurate records for menus, audits and education.

  • Participate in staff education regarding nutrition, mealtime management issues and food safety.

  • Liaise and collaborate with other members of the interdisciplinary team and community services.

  • Conduct nutrient analysis of menu items as needed.

  • Actively participates in orientation of new staff, community programs, meetings, committees and educational in-services.



  • Maintains a safe environment for residents, family and staff, through:

    • accident prevention,

    • knowledge of emergency procedures and regulations,

    • the safe use of supplies and equipment and reporting when repairs are necessary, and

    • Utilizing infection control procedures



  • Overseeing onsite food production in collaboration with both Support Services Manager & Head Chef as required.

  • Performs other duties as required.


Qualifications & Skills


  • Member in good standing with the College of Dietitians of British Columbia.

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Food and Nutrition and the completion of an accredited internship program.

  • Recent clinical experience in geriatric nutrition is an asset.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability for effective communication with members of the interdisciplinary team, residents and families.

  • Demonstrated written and verbal clinical skills

  • Knowledge of clinical nutrition principles as related to the geriatric population

  • Excellent problem solving skills with global perspective when developing nutrition care plans

  • Travel may be a requirement of this position.

  • Computer skills including the ability to navigate basic computer programs such as Word, Excel, Outlook.

  • All successful applicants must pass the vulnerable sector Criminal Record Check applicable to Provincial guidelines.

  • Ability to read, write, and speak English proficiently and understand verbal and written instructions.
