Responsibilities
  • Serve food to residents according to individual diets and preferences.
  • Control portion sizes of food items.
  • Follow safety precautions in your assigned area. Report unsafe incidents or equipment issues to management to prevent accidents.
  • Operate equipment safely, document temperatures of pot wash, dish machines, refrigerators, and freezers, and follow up as needed.
  • Deliver catering to various hospital locations and handle dishware for warewashing.
  • Observe time limits for meal service and maintain proper food temperatures.
  • Assist Cooks with preparing simple foods like salads, vegetables, fruits, breakfast items, desserts, and garnishes.
  • Clear plates and trays, load and operate dishwashers, and clean pots and utensils per procedure.
  • Help with daily prep tasks as per the Prep List.
  • Store and label dietary supplies and leftovers properly.
  • Check and record temperatures and tastes of food items, follow HACCP guidelines, and take corrective actions if needed.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of equipment, utensils, and work areas.
  • Set up for catering events, including linens, equipment, and special requests.
Requirements
  • Completion or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program meeting Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act standards.
  • Food Handler Certification approved by Public Health.
  • Availability to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to perform moderate to heavy lifting.
  • Ability to stand for long periods.
  • Current (within 6 months) VPS clearance.
