Responsibilities
- Serve food to residents according to individual diets and preferences.
- Manage portion control of food items.
- Follow safety precautions in the assigned area; report unsafe incidents or safety concerns, including defective machinery or equipment.
- Operate equipment safely, document temperatures of pot wash, dish machines, refrigerators, and freezers, and follow up as necessary.
- Deliver catering to hospital locations, including pick-up of dirty dishes for ware washing.
- Observe time limits for meal serving and maintain proper food temperatures.
- Assist Cooks in cleaning and preparing uncooked foods such as salads, vegetables, and fruits, and follow instructions for simple food preparations.
- Clear plates and trays, operate dishwashers, and clean pots, pans, and utensils as per procedures.
- Assist with daily prep tasks based on the Prep List.
- Properly store and label dietary supplies and food, including leftovers.
- Check and document temperatures and taste of food items, initiate corrective actions if needed, and document accordingly, following HACCP guidelines.
- Ensure proper cleaning and sanitation of equipment, utensils, and work areas.
- Set up for catering events, including linens, chair covers, equipment, and customer requests.
- Adhere to departmental policies on quality assurance, safety, infection control, and environmental standards.
- Assemble nourishment carts and stock unit kitchenettes.
- Participate in facility meetings and in-service education programs.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
- Successful completion or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program meeting Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act requirements.
- Food Handlers Certification approved by the Public Health Department.
- Availability to work days, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays.
- Ability to perform moderate to heavy lifting.
- Ability to stand for long periods.
- Current (within 6 months) Vulnerable Position/Sector Screening (VPS).
- Experience in a kitchen or food service setting.
