- Serve food to residents according to individual diets and preferences.
- Control portion sizes of food items.
- Follow safety precautions in your assigned area and report unsafe incidents or equipment issues to management.
- Operate equipment safely, including documenting temperatures of pot wash, dish machines, refrigerators, and freezers, and follow up as needed.
- Deliver catering to various hospital locations and handle dishware for ware washing.
- Maintain proper food temperatures during service.
- Assist cooks with preparing simple foods like salads, vegetables, fruits, breakfast items, and basic desserts.
- Clear plates and trays, operate dishwashers, and clean cookware and utensils.
- Help with food storage, labeling, and managing leftovers.
- Check and document food temperatures and quality, following HACCP guidelines, and take corrective actions when necessary.
- Ensure proper cleaning and sanitation of equipment and work areas.
- Set up for catering events, including linens, equipment, and special requests.
- Adhere to departmental policies on quality, safety, infection control, and environment.
- Assemble nourishment carts and stock unit kitchenettes.
- Participate in meetings and training sessions as assigned.
- Perform other duties as directed by the supervisor.
Requirements
- Completion or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program compliant with the Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act.
- Food Handler Certification approved by Public Health.
- Availability to work days, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays.
- Ability to lift moderate to heavy loads.
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Current (within 6 months) Vulnerable Position/Sector Screening (VPS).
