Responsibilities
  • Serve food to residents according to individual diets and preferences.
  • Manage portion control of food items.
  • Follow safety precautions, report unsafe incidents or equipment issues to management, and adhere to safety procedures.
  • Operate equipment safely, including documenting temperatures of pot wash, dish machines, refrigerators, and freezers, and follow up as necessary.
  • Deliver catering to various hospital locations, including collecting dirty dishes for washing.
  • Maintain proper serving temperatures and observe time limits for meal service.
  • Assist cooks with preparing uncooked foods like salads, vegetables, and fruits, and follow instructions for simple food preparations.
  • Clear plates and trays, load and operate dishwashers, and clean pots, pans, and utensils.
  • Assist with daily prep work, including following detailed prep lists.
  • Properly store and label dietary supplies and leftovers.
  • Check and document temperatures and taste of food items, initiate corrective actions if needed, and ensure proper documentation and stock rotation.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of equipment and work areas.
  • Set up for catering events, including linens, equipment, and special requests.
  • Adhere to departmental policies on quality assurance, safety, infection control, and environment.
  • Assemble nourishment carts and stock unit kitchenettes.
  • Participate in meetings and training sessions as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
  • Completion or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program compliant with the Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act.
  • Food Handler Certification approved by the Public Health Department.
  • Availability to work days, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays.
  • Ability to perform moderate to heavy lifting.
  • Ability to stand for long periods.
  • Current (within 6 months) Vulnerable Position/Sector Screening (VPS).
