Responsibilities
  • Serve food to residents according to individual diets and preferences.
  • Manage portion control of food items.
  • Follow safety precautions, report unsafe incidents or equipment issues, and adhere to safety procedures.
  • Operate equipment safely, document temperatures of appliances, and follow up as necessary.
  • Deliver catering to various hospital locations, including dish pickup for ware washing.
  • Maintain proper serving temperatures and observe meal time limits.
  • Assist cooks with food preparation, including salads, vegetables, and fruits, and follow instructions for simple food items.
  • Clear plates and trays, operate dishwashers, and clean kitchen utensils and equipment.
  • Assist with food prep according to the daily prep list.
  • Properly store and label dietary supplies and leftovers.
  • Check and document food temperatures and quality, initiate corrective actions, and ensure documentation and rotation of stock.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of equipment and work areas.
  • Set up for catering events, including linens, equipment, and special requests.
  • Adhere to departmental policies on quality, safety, infection control, and environment.
  • Assemble nourishment carts and stock unit kitchenettes.
  • Participate in meetings and training sessions as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
  • Completion or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program compliant with the Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act.
  • Food Handler Certification approved by the Public Health Department.
  • Availability to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to perform moderate to heavy lifting and stand for extended periods.
  • Current (within 6 months) Vulnerable Position/Sector Screening (VPS).
  • Experience in a kitchen or food service setting.
