Responsibilities

• Serve food to residents according to their diets and preferences.
• Control portion sizes of food items.
• Follow safety precautions, report unsafe incidents or equipment issues, and adhere to safety procedures.
• Operate equipment safely, document temperatures of appliances, and follow up as needed.
• Deliver catering within the hospital, including handling dirty dishes for ware washing.
• Maintain proper food serving temperatures and observe time limits for meals.
• Assist cooks with preparing uncooked foods like salads, vegetables, and fruits, and follow instructions for simple food prep.
• Clear plates, operate dishwashers, and clean cookware and utensils.
• Assist with daily prep tasks as per the prep list.
• Properly store and label dietary supplies and leftovers.
• Monitor and document food temperatures and quality, initiate corrective actions, and ensure proper documentation, stock rotation, and expiry monitoring.
• Ensure cleanliness and sanitation of equipment, utensils, and work areas.
• Set up for catering events, including linens, tableware, equipment, and customer requests.
• Adhere to departmental policies on quality, safety, infection control, and environmental standards.
• Assemble nourishment carts and stock kitchenettes.
• Participate in meetings and training sessions as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

• Completion or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program compliant with the Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act.
• Food Handlers Certification approved by Public Health.
• Availability to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Ability to lift moderate to heavy loads.
• Ability to stand for prolonged periods.
• Current (within 6 months) VPS clearance.
• Experience in a kitchen or food service setting.
