Responsibilities
  • Serve food to residents according to individual diets and preferences.
  • Ensure portion control of food items.
  • Follow safety precautions in your assigned area and report unsafe incidents or equipment issues to management.
  • Operate equipment safely, including documenting temperatures of pot wash, dish machines, refrigerators, and freezers, and follow-up as necessary.
  • Deliver catering to hospital locations and handle dishware and utensils.
  • Maintain proper food serving temperatures and observe time limits for meal service.
  • Assist cooks in preparing salads, vegetables, fruits, and basic desserts following instructions.
  • Clear plates and trays, load and operate dishwashers, and clean kitchen utensils.
  • Assist with food prep tasks as per the prep list.
  • Properly store and label dietary supplies and leftovers.
  • Check and document food temperatures and tastes, initiate corrective actions if needed, and ensure proper documentation and stock rotation.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of equipment and work areas.
  • Set up for catering events, including linens, equipment, and special requests.
  • Adhere to departmental policies on quality assurance, safety, infection control, and environmental standards.
  • Assemble nourishment carts and stock kitchenettes.
  • Participate in meetings and educational programs as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
Requirements
  • Completion or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program compliant with the Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act.
  • Food Handlers Certification approved by the Public Health Department.
  • Availability to work days, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays.
  • Ability to lift moderate to heavy loads and stand for long periods.
  • Current (within 6 months) Vulnerable Position/Sector Screening (VPS).
  • Experience in a kitchen or food service setting.
