Qualifications

Job description

As a valued member of our culinary team, you will assist with plating and serving meals. You will also be responsible for cleaning serving areas and equipment, while following established policies, procedures, and standards.

Responsibilities:
  1. Follow policies, procedures, work systems, and cleaning protocols to meet regulatory requirements.
  2. Ensure food is prepared and served according to health and food safety guidelines.
  3. Use dietary equipment competently.
  4. Participate in meal presentation.
  5. Work cooperatively with the interdisciplinary team.
  6. Assist in planning and organizing food preparation to ensure timely service of meals and snacks at appropriate temperatures, textures, and quantities.
  7. Clean, care for, and store equipment properly after each use.
  8. Report any repair needs or environmental deficiencies.
  9. Deliver and serve meals based on residents' assessed needs.
  10. Assist with dining room cleanup.
  11. Help prepare the environment for special events.
  12. Participate in facility and department committees as required.
  13. Use CQI/Risk Management processes to evaluate and follow up on issues.
  14. Engage in ongoing educational opportunities.
  15. Promote wellness as a core concept.
  16. Contribute to the development and maintenance of departmental policies, goals, and objectives.
  17. Collaborate with volunteers and student placements to enhance department services.
  18. Use supplies and equipment efficiently.
  19. Provide input on menu planning based on residents' preferences.
  20. Adopt safe work practices to protect health and safety, report unsafe conditions, and attend relevant occupational health and safety training.
  21. Follow all roles and responsibilities under the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  22. Handle chemicals safely following WHMIS guidelines.
Qualifications:
  • Successful completion or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program meeting Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act requirements.
  • Previous dietary experience in LTC (Long Term Care) preferred (0-1 years).
  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Proficiency in reading and writing English, with the ability to understand verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to work safely by following established safety practices and procedures.
  • Ability to perform moderate to heavy lifting.
