Responsibilities
  • Serve food to residents according to individual diets and preferences.
  • Manage portion control of food items.
  • Follow safety precautions, report unsafe incidents, and ensure safe operation of equipment.
  • Document temperatures of equipment like refrigerators and freezers, and follow up as needed.
  • Deliver catering to hospital locations and handle dishware.
  • Maintain proper food temperatures and observe serving time limits.
  • Assist cooks with food prep, including salads, vegetables, and simple desserts.
  • Clear plates, operate dishwashers, and clean utensils.
  • Help with storage, labeling, and monitoring of food and supplies, including leftovers.
  • Check and document food temperatures and quality, initiate corrective actions, and ensure proper documentation.
  • Maintain sanitation of equipment and work areas.
  • Set up for catering events with linens, equipment, and special requests.
  • Follow departmental policies on quality, safety, and infection control.
  • Assemble nourishment carts and stock kitchenettes.
  • Participate in meetings and training sessions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervision.
Requirements
  • Completion or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program compliant with the Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act.
  • Food Handlers Certification approved by the Public Health Department.
  • Availability to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to lift moderate to heavy loads.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Current (within 6 months) Vulnerable Position/Sector Screening (VPS).
  • Experience in kitchen or food service preferred.
