- Serve food to residents according to individual diets and preferences.
- Control portion sizes of food items.
- Follow safety precautions in your assigned area, report unsafe incidents or equipment issues, and adhere to established safety procedures.
- Operate equipment safely, including documenting temperatures of pot wash, dish machines, refrigerators, and freezers, and taking follow-up actions as needed.
- Deliver catering to various hospital locations and handle dishware and utensils appropriately.
- Maintain proper food temperatures and observe serving time limits.
- Assist cooks with food preparation, including salads, vegetables, fruits, and simple breakfast items or desserts.
- Clear plates and trays, load dishwashers, and clean pots, pans, and utensils following procedures.
- Help with food storage, labeling, and inventory management, including leftovers.
- Monitor and document food temperatures and quality, initiate corrective actions if needed, and ensure proper documentation and food safety standards.
- Ensure thorough cleaning and sanitation of equipment and work areas.
- Set up for catering events, including linens, tableware, and special requests.
- Follow departmental policies on quality assurance, safety, infection control, and environmental standards.
- Assist with assembling nourishment carts and stocking kitchenettes.
- Participate in meetings and ongoing training sessions.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervision.
Requirements
- Completion or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program compliant with the Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act.
- Food Handler Certification approved by the Public Health Department.
- Availability to work days, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays.
- Ability to perform moderate to heavy lifting.
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Current (within 6 months) Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS).
