Responsibilities
- Serve food to residents according to individual diets and preferences.
- Manage portion control of food items.
- Ensure safety precautions are followed; report unsafe incidents or equipment issues.
- Operate equipment safely, including documenting temperatures and follow-up actions.
- Deliver catering throughout the hospital, including dish pick-up for ware washing.
- Maintain proper food serving temperatures and observe time limits.
- Assist Cooks with food preparation, including salads, vegetables, and simple desserts.
- Clear plates, operate dishwashers, and clean utensils and pots.
- Participate in food storage, labeling, and inventory management, including leftovers.
- Monitor and document food temperatures and quality, ensuring compliance with HACCP guidelines.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of equipment and work areas.
- Set up for catering events, including linens, utensils, and special requests.
- Adhere to departmental policies on quality, safety, environment, and infection control.
- Assist with nourishment carts and stock unit kitchenettes.
- Participate in meetings and ongoing training.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
- Completion or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program meeting Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act requirements.
- Food Handlers Certification approved by Public Health Department.
- Availability to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to lift moderate to heavy loads and stand for long periods.
- Current (within 6 months) VPS screening.
- Experience in a kitchen or food service setting.
