- Serve food to residents according to their diets and preferences.
- Manage portion control of food items.
- Follow safety precautions in your assigned area, report unsafe incidents or equipment issues to management, and adhere to safety procedures.
- Operate equipment safely, document temperatures of pot wash, dish machines, refrigerators, and freezers, and follow up as needed.
- Deliver catering to various hospital locations, including collecting dirty dishes for washing.
- Ensure timely meal service and maintain proper food temperatures.
- Assist cooks in preparing salads, vegetables, fruits, and simple breakfast items or desserts, following basic instructions.
- Clear plates and trays, operate dishwashers, and clean pots, pans, and utensils following procedures.
- Help with daily prep tasks as per the Prep List.
- Store and label dietary supplies and leftovers properly.
- Check and record temperatures or tastes of food items, following HACCP guidelines, and take corrective actions if needed.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of equipment and work areas.
- Set up for catering events, including linens, table settings, and special requests.
- Adhere to departmental policies on quality, safety, infection control, and environmental standards.
- Assemble nourishment carts and stock unit kitchenettes.
- Participate in meetings and training sessions as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
Requirements
- Completion or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program compliant with the Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act.
- Food Handler Certification approved by the Public Health Department.
- Availability to work days, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays.
- Ability to lift moderate to heavy loads.
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Current (within 6 months) Vulnerable Sector Screening.
- Experience in kitchen or food service settings is preferred.
