Responsibilities
  • Serve food to residents according to individual diets and preferences.
  • Ensure portion control of food items.
  • Follow safety precautions, report unsafe incidents or equipment issues, and adhere to safety procedures.
  • Operate equipment safely, document temperatures of appliances, and follow up as needed.
  • Deliver catering throughout the hospital, including dish collection for cleaning.
  • Maintain proper food serving temperatures and observe time limits.
  • Assist Cooks with food preparation, including salads, vegetables, and fruits.
  • Clear plates and trays, operate dishwashers, and clean utensils as per procedures.
  • Support in food storage, labeling, and inventory management, including leftovers.
  • Monitor and document food temperatures and quality, initiate corrective actions, and ensure proper documentation per HACCP guidelines.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of equipment and work areas.
  • Set up for catering events, including linens, utensils, and customer requests.
  • Adhere to departmental policies on quality assurance, safety, and infection control.
  • Assemble nourishment carts and stock kitchenettes.
  • Participate in meetings and training sessions as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
  • Completion or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program compliant with the Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act.
  • Food Handler Certification approved by Public Health Department.
  • Availability to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to lift moderate to heavy loads.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Current (within 6 months) Vulnerable Position/Sector Screening (VPS).
  • Experience in a kitchen or food service setting.
