Responsibilities
  • Serve food to residents according to individual diets and preferences.
  • Control portion sizes of food items.
  • Follow safety precautions, report unsafe incidents or equipment issues, and adhere to safety procedures.
  • Operate equipment safely, including documenting temperatures of refrigerators, freezers, and dishwashers, and follow up as needed.
  • Deliver catering to various hospital locations, including handling dirty dishes for washing.
  • Maintain proper food temperatures and observe serving time limits.
  • Assist cooks with preparing salads, vegetables, fruits, and simple breakfast items or desserts.
  • Clear plates and trays, operate dishwashers, and clean cookware.
  • Support prep work as per the daily prep list.
  • Store and label dietary supplies and leftovers properly.
  • Check and document food temperatures and tastes, follow HACCP guidelines, and take corrective actions when necessary.
  • Ensure cleanliness and sanitation of equipment and work areas.
  • Set up for catering events, including linens, equipment, and special requests.
Requirements
  • Completion or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program compliant with Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act.
  • Food Handler Certification approved by Public Health Department.
  • Availability to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to lift moderate to heavy loads and stand for extended periods.
  • Current (within 6 months) Vulnerable Sector Screening.
  • Experience in a kitchen or food service setting.
