Responsibilities
  • Serve food to residents according to individual diets and preferences.
  • Control portion sizes of food items.
  • Follow safety precautions, report unsafe incidents or equipment issues, and adhere to safety procedures.
  • Operate and document temperatures of equipment like dishwashers, refrigerators, and freezers.
  • Deliver catering throughout the hospital and handle dishware.
  • Maintain proper food serving temperatures and observe time limits.
  • Assist cooks with food preparation, including salads, vegetables, and simple desserts.
  • Clear plates and trays, operate dishwashers, and clean utensils.
  • Support prep work as per the daily Prep List.
  • Properly store, label, and manage food and leftovers, ensuring safety and quality.
  • Document food temperatures and tastes, initiate corrective actions, and monitor expiry dates.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of equipment and work areas.
  • Set up for catering events, including linens, equipment, and customer requests.
Requirements
  • Complete or be enrolled in a Food Service Worker Program compliant with the Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act.
  • Hold a valid Food Handler Certification approved by Public Health.
  • Be available to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Capable of moderate to heavy lifting and standing for long periods.
  • Have a current (within 6 months) Vulnerable Sector Screening.
  • Experience in a kitchen or food service setting preferred.
