Responsibilities
  • Serve food to residents according to individual diets and preferences.
  • Manage portion control of food items.
  • Ensure safety precautions in your area; report unsafe incidents or equipment issues to management.
  • Operate equipment safely, document temperatures of appliances, and follow up as needed.
  • Deliver catering throughout the hospital and handle dishware for warewashing.
  • Maintain proper food temperatures and observe serving time limits.
  • Assist cooks with preparing uncooked foods and follow instructions for simple dishes and garnishes.
  • Clear plates and trays, load and operate dishwashers, and clean utensils.
  • Support prep work according to daily prep lists.
  • Properly store and label dietary supplies and leftovers.
  • Check and document food temperatures and taste, adhering to HACCP guidelines; take corrective actions when necessary.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of equipment and work areas.
  • Set up for catering events, including linens, equipment, and special requests.
  • Follow departmental policies on quality, safety, infection control, and environmental standards.
  • Assemble nourishment carts and stock kitchenettes.
  • Participate in meetings and ongoing education programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
Requirements
  • Completion or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program compliant with the Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act.
  • Food Handlers Certification approved by the Public Health Department.
  • Availability to work days, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays.
  • Ability to lift moderate to heavy loads.
  • Capacity to stand for extended periods.
  • Current (within 6 months) Vulnerable Position/Sector Screening (VPS).
  • Experience in kitchen or food service settings.
