Responsibilities
  • Serve food to residents according to individual diets and preferences.
  • Control portions of food items.
  • Follow safety precautions in your assigned area, report unsafe incidents or equipment issues to management, and adhere to safety procedures.
  • Operate equipment safely, document temperatures of pot wash, dish machines, refrigerators, and freezers, and follow up as needed.
  • Deliver catering to hospital locations, including picking up dirty dishes for washing.
  • Observe meal serving time limits and maintain proper food temperatures.
  • Assist cooks with preparing uncooked foods like salads, vegetables, and fruits, following basic instructions.
  • Clear plates and trays, load and operate dishwashers, and clean pots, pans, and utensils as per procedures.
  • Support prep cooks with daily prep tasks.
  • Properly store and label dietary supplies and leftovers.
  • Check and document temperatures and taste of food items, initiate corrective actions if needed, and ensure proper documentation and stock rotation.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of equipment, utensils, and work areas.
  • Set up for catering events, including linens, chair covers, equipment, and other customer requests.

Requirements

  • Complete or be enrolled in a Food Service Worker Program compliant with the Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act.
  • Hold a Food Handlers Certification approved by Public Health.
  • Be available to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Capable of performing moderate to heavy lifting.
  • Able to stand for long periods.
  • Have a current (within 6 months) Vulnerable Position/Sector Screening (VPS).
  • Experience in a kitchen or food service setting is preferred.
