Responsibilities
  • Serve food to residents according to individual diets and preferences.
  • Manage portion control of food items.
  • Follow safety precautions in the assigned area, report unsafe incidents or equipment issues, and adhere to safety procedures.
  • Operate equipment safely, document temperatures of pot wash, dish machines, refrigerators, and freezers, and follow up as needed.
  • Deliver catering to hospital locations and handle dirty dishes for ware washing.
  • Ensure timely meal service and maintain proper food temperatures.
  • Assist Cooks in preparing salads, vegetables, fruits, and simple foods like breakfast items and desserts.
  • Clear plates and trays, operate dishwashers, and clean cookware and utensils.
  • Support the Prep Cooks with daily prep tasks.
  • Properly store and label dietary supplies and leftovers.
  • Check and document temperatures or tastes of foods, follow HACCP guidelines, and take corrective actions when necessary.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of equipment and work areas.
  • Set up for catering events, including linens, equipment, and special requests.
  • Adhere to departmental policies on quality, safety, infection control, and environment.
  • Assemble nourishment carts and stock unit kitchenettes.
  • Participate in meetings and training sessions as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
  • Completion or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program compliant with the Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act.
  • Food Handler Certification approved by Public Health.
  • Availability to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to perform moderate to heavy lifting and stand for extended periods.
  • Current (within 6 months) VPS screening.
  • Experience in a kitchen or food service setting preferred.
