Job summary

Extendicare is seeking a part-time Dietary Aide for Forest Trail Home in Peterborough, Ontario. You will assist with plating and serving meals, help cooks with food preparation, and ensure serving areas and equipment are clean according to established policies.

The role requires you to work evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays. A High School Diploma and a valid Food Handlers Certificate are required, with nutrition or food service training considered an asset and healthcare/food service

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or higher.
• Valid Food Handlers Certificate.
• Degree/Diploma in nutrition or food service is an asset.
• Previous dietary skills in healthcare, clinical, restaurant, or hospitality food service environments is an asset.
• Must be able to read and write in English.

Responsibilities

• Serves food to residents according to individual diets and maintains proper serving temperatures.
• Assists Cooks with basic food preparation including salads, vegetables, fruits, and simple breakfast items.
• Clears plates, loads dishwasher, and cleans pots, pans, and cooking utensils as per procedure.
• Stocks nourishment carts and unit kitchenettes; participates in proper storage and labeling of dietary supplies.
• Adheres to departmental policies, procedures regarding quality assurance, fire, safety, environment, and infection control.
• Attends facility meetings and in-service education programs; performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

This position is for our Forest Trail Home, located in 514 Deline St. Peterborough, ON K9K 1T3.

Available opportunities include Part-Time; 4 Hour Evening shifts Must be able to work Weekends and Holidays

What you’ll be doing

• Serves food to residents according to individual diets and preferences. Observes time limits for meal serving. Maintains foods at proper serving temperature.
• Assists Cooks to clean and prepare such uncooked food as salads, vegetables, and fruits. Follows basic instructions in preparing such simple foods as breakfast items, basic desserts, and garnishes.
• Clears plates and trays, loads, and operates dishwasher. Cleans pots, pans, and cooking utensils as per procedure.
• Participates in proper storage and labeling of dietary supplies and food, including leftovers.
• Adheres to established departmental policies, procedures regarding quality assurance, fire, safety, environment, and infection control.
• Assembles nourishment carts. Stocks unit kitchenettes.
• Participates in facility meetings as assigned. Attends in-service education programs.
• Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

What you bring

• High School Diploma or Higher Academic Certification
• Valid Food Handlers Certificate
• Degree/ Diploma in nutrition or Food Service Program is an asset.
• Previous dietary skills, knowledge, and experience with institutional, health care, restaurant, or hospitality food service environments is an asset.
• Must meet the physical requirements of the position (standing for long periods of time, moderate to heavy lifting, fast paced environment).
• Ability to read and write in English as well as to understand simple verbal and written instructions in English.
• Ability to work safely, following established safety practices and procedures.
• Successful candidate must be available to work, days, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays.
