About the job: Dietary Aide (Oshawa/Port Hope/Port Perry)
As a valued member of our culinary team, you will assist with plating and serving meals. You will also be responsible for cleaning serving areas and equipment, while following established policies, procedures, and standards.
- Follow policies, procedures, work systems, and cleaning protocols to meet regulatory requirements.
- Ensure food is prepared and served according to health and food safety guidelines.
- Operate dietary equipment competently.
- Participate in meal presentation.
- Work cooperatively with the interdisciplinary team.
- Assist in planning and organizing food preparation to ensure timely service of meals and snacks, maintaining appropriate temperature, texture, and portion sizes.
- Clean, care for, and store equipment properly after each use.
- Report any repair needs or environmental deficiencies.
- Deliver and serve meals based on residents' assessed needs.
- Assist with dining room cleanup.
- Prepare the environment and food for special events.
- Participate in departmental and facility committees as required.
- Use CQI/Risk Management processes for evaluation and follow-up.
- Engage in ongoing educational opportunities.
- Promote wellness as a key concept of living.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of departmental policies, goals, and objectives.
- Collaborate with volunteers and student placements to enhance departmental services.
- Use supplies and equipment efficiently and effectively.
- Provide input on menu planning and adjustments based on residents' preferences.
- Adopt safe work practices to protect personal and others' health, report unsafe conditions, and attend occupational health and safety training.
- Follow all roles and responsibilities under the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Handle chemicals safely, following WHMIS guidelines.
Qualifications:
• Successful completion or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program compliant with the Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act.
• Previous dietary experience in LTC (Long Term Care) preferred, 0-1 year.
• Ability to stand for extended periods.
• Proficiency in reading, writing, and understanding simple verbal and written instructions in English.
• Ability to work safely, following established safety procedures.
• Ability to perform moderate to heavy lifting.
