What You Will Do:

You will report directly to the Food Services Manager and be responsible for various tasks, including portioning and serving meals, assisting with food production by washing and peeling vegetables and fruits, and preparing coffee, tea, and toast. You will also be responsible for portioning desserts, assembling sandwiches and salads, and preparing and portioning diet items according to nutritional plans. Additional duties include measuring and combining food and beverage ingredients through methods such as grinding, blending, slicing, dicing, or pureeing, checking patient and resident meals or trays to ensure dietary accuracy, and delivering wagons or trays to patient and resident units.

Education and Experience:

  • You have a Food Safe Certificate Level 1, and it's up-to-date.
  • Grade 10

  • One year’s recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Food Services plays a vital role in enhancing patient care and health outcomes by providing nutritious, high-quality meals tailored to diverse dietary needs. Our team includes dedicated professionals who work collaboratively to ensure meals meet the highest standards of care, serving patients, residents, and staff across Providence Health Care facilities.

Your Day to Day:

  • Sets up food wagons/carts and serves food to patients/customers
  • Collects patient information/food orders, serves patients/residents/customers in a friendly, efficient manner following outlined steps of service
  • Checks and records food and fridge temperatures
  • Prepares beverages and food items such as tea, coffee and toast
  • Prepares fruits and vegetables by washing and cleaning, peeling and portioning
  • Strips, racks and washes items such as dishes, pots, pans and utensils
  • Packages, labels, dates and transfers food in storage
  • Perform cleaning and sanitizing duties as required
