Responsibilities
- Serve food to residents according to individual diets and preferences.
- Control portion sizes of food items.
- Follow safety precautions in the assigned area, report unsafe incidents or safety concerns, and ensure safe operation of equipment.
- Operate equipment safely, document temperatures of pot wash, dish machine, refrigerators, and freezers, and follow up as necessary.
- Deliver catering to hospital locations, including pick-up of dirty dishes.
- Maintain proper serving temperatures and observe time limits for meal service.
- Assist cooks with cleaning and preparing uncooked foods like salads, vegetables, and fruits, and follow instructions for preparing simple foods.
- Clear plates and trays, operate dishwashers, and clean pots, pans, and utensils.
- Assist with daily prep lists and participate in proper storage and labeling of food and supplies.
- Check and document food temperatures and quality, initiate corrective actions, and ensure proper documentation and stock rotation.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of equipment, utensils, and work areas.
- Set up for catering events, including linens, equipment, and special requests.
- Adhere to departmental policies on quality assurance, safety, infection control, and other procedures.
- Assemble nourishment carts and stock unit kitchenettes.
- Participate in meetings and educational programs as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
- Successful completion or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program compliant with the Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act.
- Food Handler Certification approved by Public Health Department.
- Availability to work days, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays.
- Ability to do moderate to heavy lifting and stand for long periods.
- Current (within 6 months) Vulnerable Sector Screening.
- Experience in a kitchen or food service setting.
