Responsibilities
  • Serve food to residents according to individual diets and preferences.
  • Control portion sizes of food items.
  • Follow safety precautions in the assigned area, report unsafe incidents or safety concerns, and ensure safe operation of equipment.
  • Operate equipment safely, document temperatures of pot wash, dish machine, refrigerators, and freezers, and follow up as necessary.
  • Deliver catering to hospital locations, including pick-up of dirty dishes.
  • Maintain proper serving temperatures and observe time limits for meal service.
  • Assist cooks with cleaning and preparing uncooked foods like salads, vegetables, and fruits, and follow instructions for preparing simple foods.
  • Clear plates and trays, operate dishwashers, and clean pots, pans, and utensils.
  • Assist with daily prep lists and participate in proper storage and labeling of food and supplies.
  • Check and document food temperatures and quality, initiate corrective actions, and ensure proper documentation and stock rotation.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of equipment, utensils, and work areas.
  • Set up for catering events, including linens, equipment, and special requests.
  • Adhere to departmental policies on quality assurance, safety, infection control, and other procedures.
  • Assemble nourishment carts and stock unit kitchenettes.
  • Participate in meetings and educational programs as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
  • Successful completion or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program compliant with the Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act.
  • Food Handler Certification approved by Public Health Department.
  • Availability to work days, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays.
  • Ability to do moderate to heavy lifting and stand for long periods.
  • Current (within 6 months) Vulnerable Sector Screening.
  • Experience in a kitchen or food service setting.
