Responsibilities
  • Serve food to residents according to individual diets and preferences.
  • Manage portion control of food items.
  • Ensure safety precautions are followed; report unsafe incidents or equipment issues.
  • Operate equipment safely, including documenting temperatures and follow-up actions.
  • Deliver catering to hospital locations, including dish collection for washing.
  • Maintain proper food serving temperatures and observe time limits.
  • Assist cooks in preparing simple foods like salads, vegetables, and fruits.
  • Clear plates, operate dishwashers, and clean utensils and cookware.
  • Assist with food storage, labeling, and inventory management.
  • Check and document food temperatures and quality, initiating corrective actions if needed.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of equipment and work areas.
  • Set up for catering events, including linens, equipment, and customer requests.
  • Adhere to departmental policies on quality, safety, and infection control.
  • Participate in meetings and training as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Requirements
  • Completion or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program meeting Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act requirements.
  • Food Handlers Certification approved by Public Health Department.
  • Availability to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to lift moderately to heavily and stand for long periods.
  • Current (within 6 months) VPS clearance.
  • Experience in a kitchen or food service setting.
