Responsibilities
  • Serve food to residents according to individual diets and preferences.
  • Manage portion control of food items.
  • Follow safety precautions, report unsafe incidents or equipment issues, and ensure safety protocols are followed.
  • Operate equipment safely, document temperatures, and follow up as necessary.
  • Deliver catering to various hospital locations, including handling dirty dishes.
  • Maintain proper food temperatures and serve within time limits.
  • Assist cooks with food preparation, including salads, vegetables, and simple desserts.
  • Clear plates, operate dishwashers, and clean utensils as per procedures.
  • Participate in proper storage and labeling of food, including leftovers.
  • Monitor and document food temperatures and quality, initiate corrective actions, and ensure proper documentation.
  • Ensure cleanliness and sanitation of equipment and work areas.
  • Set up for catering events, including linens, equipment, and special requests.
  • Adhere to departmental policies on quality, safety, and infection control.
  • Assemble nourishment carts and stock kitchenettes.
  • Participate in meetings and training sessions as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
  • Completion or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program compliant with Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act.
  • Food Handlers Certification approved by Public Health.
  • Availability to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to lift moderate to heavy loads and stand for extended periods.
  • Current (within 6 months) VPS clearance.
  • Experience in kitchen or food service setting preferred.
